DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - Following a near two-year investigation, police in Poughkeepsie have arrested a man that allegedly committed a murder in 2015.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department announced Friday the arrest of former city resident Kaheem Cummings, 23, who has been charged with murder in relation to the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man near Mansion Street.

According to police, at approximately 9:40 p.m. on June 30, 2015, Shameik Floyd was found dead in the street near 200 Mansion Street with a gunshot wound to his head. He would die from those wounds later that day.

Police said that the Detective Bureau launched an investigation into the shooting with an assist from the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Department of Corrections Office of Special Investigations Criminal Intelligence Division, which led them to Cummings.

Cummings has been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of robbery, conspiracy and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies. He was arraigned on Friday and remanded into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.

The investigation into the murder is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact City of Poughkeepsie Police at (845) 451-7577.
