Police Seized Loaded Handgun, Shotgun, Heroin In Poughkeepsie Drug Bust

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Two Poughkeepsie residents were busted on drugs and weapons charges Thursday after the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit received a tip of illegal drug sales.

Lavon Chambers, 25, and Ruby Willis, 27, were nabbed after the Recovery Unit, with the assistance of the Emergency Services Unit, executed a search warrant at 150 Winnikee Ave., as a result of an investigation into illegal drug sales at that location, said Sgt.Terrence Beam.

During the search, officers located and seized a loaded 9mm handgun with a defaced serial number, a loaded 20-gauge shotgun, a quantity of heroin, including heroin mixed with fentanyl, cash, and other items used to prepare, package, and sell controlled substances, Beam said.

Chambers was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Willis was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance and a parole violation outstanding from the New York State Police.

Both are being held pending arraignment.
