DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - A 48-year-old Dutchess County man who attempted to cash a $5,000 check without the knowledge of a Wappingers Falls woman has been charged with attempted grand larceny, New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks announced Friday.
Troopers were contacted by the woman in June. She reported that a check in the amount of $5,000 was drawn against her account without her knowledge.
In March of 2017, Chase Bank declined the transaction after contacting the victim, launching an investigation.
The investigation indicated that Jon L. Heinemann of Poughkeepsie issued the stolen check to a business acquaintance, state police said.
Heinemann was charged with the Class D felony.
Heinemann was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Town of Wappinger Court on Sept. 7.
