EAST FISHKILL, N.Y. -- A man killed Monday when he was struck by a car on Route 82 has been identified by authorities as Richard Fuhst Jr.
Investigators released the 27-year East Fishkill man's identity in a statement Wednesday.
Fuhst was wearing dark clothing while walking in a dimly lit southbound traffic lane on Route 82 near Oak Ridge Road Monday night when he was struck by a southbound 1999 Ford station wagon, police said.
The driver of the Ford, a 44-year-old Saugerties man, remained on the scene. Police do not believe he saw Fuhst before striking him.
Why the 27-year-old was walking in the road was not clear, but police said they are awaiting toxicology and autopsy reports to see if he may have been intoxicated or impaired at the time of his death.
