Pair Caught With Cocaine, Ecstasy In Wappinger Overnight Stop

Two men are behinds bars after a traffic stop in Wappinger resulted in drug charges.

Troopers pulled over a 2002 Chevrolet van on Route 376 in Wappinger at about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14. During the stop, a strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle and troopers discovered that the driver, 36-year-old Luis A. Real Paez of Belleville, NJ was unlicensed. Further investigation revealed approximately 3.5 grams of marijuana and approximately 1.25 grams of Ecstasy, police said.

Rael Paez and 35-year-old Jonathan Vazquez of Newark were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a Class C felony. Real Paez was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and unlicensed without operation, both violations.

The pair were arraigned before the Town of East Fishkill Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. Their next scheduled court appearance is on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
