DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- State Police from Wappinger have arrested an 82-year-old man from upstate for allegedly embezzling nearly $20,000 from a local veterans organization.
Troopers arrested Colonie resident John Manning on Thursday following a lengthy investigation into the misappropriation of funds from a veterans organization in Poughkeepsie over the span of more than two years.
According to police, an investigation determined that between January 2014 and July 2016, Manning embezzled more than $18,000 from the organization, while he served as treasurer. The incident was initially reported to troopers last September.
Manning was arrested and charged with a felony count of third-degree grand larceny. He was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond. He is due back in court on Wednesday, April 19.
