According to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred when a 2004 Honda Civic driven by Anthony Stoddar, 25, of Elizaville in Columbia County lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Route 308 and Route 199 and struck a traffic light support pole.

Stoddard and passenger, Dominic Russo, 25, of Pine Plains, received minor injuries and were treated at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. Another occupant, William Amato, 25, of Hudson, received serious injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, police said.

Sheriff's officials said that, although the investigation is continuing, it appears that fatigue and alleged drug use are the primary reasons for the crash.

After receiving treatment, Stoddard was arrested at the hospital and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and felony second-degree vehicular assault. Once released, he was transported to the Sheriff's Office for processing before being released on an appearance ticket.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the State Police, Milan Fire Department, Rhinebeck Fire Department, Red Hook Fire Department, and Northern Dutchess paramedics.
