Officers were dispatched to a Route 376 residence at approximately 2 a.m. on March 8, where there were reports of a disturbance involving the homeowner’s ex-boyfriend, who had broken a window to enter the home, police said.

Police said that the man - later identified as Poughkeepsie resident William Ortiz, 23 - broke the window and illegally entered the house before assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Ortiz was then chased away from the property by other occupants.

According to police, Ortiz was located near the Blue Fountain Restaurant shortly thereafter and resisted arrest before being subdued and apprehended. Ortiz was charged with second-degree burglary and criminal mischief, both felonies. He was also charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors.

Ortiz was arraigned in East Fishkill Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
