Man Attempts To Cash Forged Check In Wappinger, Police Say

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - New York State Police troopers busted a 26-year-old man in Dutchess County after he attempted to use a fraudulent check, police said on Thursday.

Following an investigation, state police troopers from the Wappinger barracks arrested Manhattan resident Virgil Barber, who allegedly used an alias and attempted to cash a forged check at a local bank in Dutchess.

Barber was arrested on Wednesday and charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a forged instrument and criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned at the Town of Fishkill Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is due back in court next week, on Tuesday, July 25.
