POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- One of the five people struck by lightning following a thunderstorm at a City of Poughkeepsie park on Friday, could go home within the next couple of days.
One of two 46-year-old men that had been listed in critical condition at Vassar Brothers Medical Center is improving and should be able to go home within the next few days, said Tim Massie, senior vice president of Public Affairs and Government Relations for Health Quest, which operates the hospital.
The other patient is still being treated in the intensive care unit, Massie said.
Five people were injured as they stood under a tree near a bench at Mansion Square Park. A 50-year-old man died after the strike at Vassar.
Two less seriously injured victims were taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center where they are still receiving treatment.
