On Sunday, Troopers from the Wappinger barracks arrested Kelley M. McCann, age 26, after responding to a report of a three-year-old child found unattended in the Ramada Inn parking lot in the Village of Fishkill, said Trooper A.J. Hicks, public information officer for the department.

"Another guest found the child standing in the parking lot and took them to the front desk who contacted us," Hicks said.

It took troopers over an hour to locate the mother, who was staying at the Hawthrone Inn Suites, which is adjacent to the hotel, he added.

The child was placed in the custody of a responsible family member. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Child Protective Services and the Village of Fishkill Police Department.

McCann was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Village of Fishkill Justice Court on Sept. 25.
