DUCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- On Sunday, the Dutchess County Volunteer Firefighters Association had its 18th annual memorial commemorating the lives of local firefighters who died in the past year.
More than 70 people attended the memorial service at Dutchess County Emergency Response in Poughkeepsie.
Some of those in attendance included Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, Dutchess County Clerk Brad Kendall, Dutchess County Emergency Management Commissioner Dana Smith, Dutchess County Volunteer Firefighters Association President Vincent Galvin and other dignitaries.
"I think it’s important to remember everybody who has passed on because the service that they have given to Duchess County," Galvin told the Poughkeepsie Journal. "Just remember a lot of us are still volunteer and that means they don’t do it for pay, they do it for the love of the job, they do it to hang out with their brothers and sisters and to really help their communities by saving lives."
