Michael J. SanFilippo, 39, of Pleasant Valley and Jessica L. Merck, 27, of Cottekill, were charged with the burglary while being held at the Dutchess County Jail in connection with the November 2016 robbery of the LaGrangeville Smokes 4 Less store, police said.

The cycle store burglary, which occurred on Oct. 28, 2016, was discovered after a commercial alarm went off, sending police to the store. Upon arrival, officers found the front glass door had been smashed in to gain entry.

As a result of an investigation by the Ulster Police detectives and other agencies, both SanFilippo and Merck were identified as suspects in the case, police said.

The two are accused using a baseball bat to threatened a clerk during the robbery of the Smokes 4 Less robbery, Dutchess County Sheriff's officials said.

Both were charged with attempted burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools and returned to the Dutchess County Jail, police said.

The Ulster Police Department was assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, and the East Fishkill Police Department.
