Dutchess Duo Makes Purchases For Weeks With Victim's Debit Card, Police Say

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two Dutchess residents who made purchases with a victim's debit card over the period of about one month are facing multiple charges, state police announced Thursday.

Troopers interviewed a Pleasant Valley man on July 31 who reported that his debit card was used at numerous locations throughout Dutchess County, including the Town of Hyde Park. It was then discovered that Steven Maiello, 26, of Poughkeepsie, and Nylvelise Torres, 22, of Hyde Park utilized the victim’s debit card information to make numerous purchases over the course of several weeks in late June of 2017 through late July of 2017 which yielded an approximate financial loss of $737, police said.

On August 15, 2017, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested Steven Maiello, age 26, of Poughkeepsie, New York and Nylvelise Torres, age 22, of Hyde Park, New York, for Forgery in the 2nd Degree a Class D Felony, Identity Theft in the 2nd Degree a Class E Felony, and Petit Larceny a Misdemeanor.

Maiello and Torres were arraigned before the Town of Hyde Park Court and released to probation supervision. Both subjects were ordered to appear in the Town of Hyde Park Court on Sept. 12.
