BEACON, N. Y. -- Though details are slim, officials say the 70-year-old man convicted of killing a police officer in 1975 appears to have taken his own life at Fishkill Correctional Facility, according to The Poughkeepsie Journal.
The death of inmate John MacKenzie, who was convicted in the shooting death of Police Officer Matthew Giglio on Long Island is being investigated by state police and the department of corrections. But a state police spokesperson said it looked lke a suicide, The Poughkeepsie Journal says.
MacKenzie died Thursday while serving a 25-years-to-life sentence for killing the officer who was responding to a burglary report. Autopsy results and toxicology tests are pending, The Poughkeepsie Journal says.
