Abimael Rivera, 22, was charged with felony burglary, attempted assault, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest after police responded to an apartment on Main Street around 5:30 a.m. for a call for help, Solomon said.
According to police, Rivera knocked on the woman's door and then forced his way inside before punching her, police said.
When officers arrived and attempted to take him into custody he struggled with them and was eventually subdued and placed under arrest.
Rivera is being held at the Dutchess County Jail.
