Wayne Ackert Sr., 75, New Paltz Resident

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Wayne Ackert Sr., of New Paltz, died on Saturday, April 2. He was 75.

Born in Poughkeepsie, Ackert was a Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of Carpenters Union Local 265. "A family man in the truest sense of the word, his greatest joy was spending time with his loved ones," information from the funeral home noted.

"His sense of humor and wit could bring an entire room to tears with laughter. He was a great father, who always told us to follow our dreams, encouraged us in everything we did and supported our decisions even if he disagreed. He was also an amazing father figure to many who didn't have one firsthand."

Ackert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie Angelillo Ackert of New Paltz; children Wayne Ackert Jr. of Highland, Theresa Brooks of Marlboro, Stacy Ackert of Highland and Tracy VonAhnen of New Paltz; siblings Darrell Ackert and Ella Mae Lyons; grandchildren Ashley, Shawn, Joseph, Deirdre, Rachel, James, Danielle, Megan, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Jenna and Matthew; great-grandchildren Christopher, Marqus, Emma, Bradley, Isaiah, Preston, Shawn Jr., Tyler, Sophia, Dylan, Michael, and Liam; and several special nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Grace Theresa Bonner, and his siblings, Eleanor, Ruth, John, Brian, Les, Gil and Chet.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, 38 Main St., in Highland. A mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph's Church, in New Paltz, with burial to follow in St. Charles Cemetery, in Gardiner.
