BEACON, N.Y. -- Samuel Linwood Lunsford III, of Beacon, died Monday, Nov. 7. He was 78.
Born Dec. 7, 1937, in Peekskill, he was the son of Samuel L. and Martha Barksdale Lunsford II.
Lunsford was a retired metal worker for Green Fuel Economizer in Beacon. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran during Korea and a member of the Springfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Levisa M. Williamson Lunsford; children, Mark Lunsford, Alesia Lunsford, Alane Lunsford and Jack M. Lunsford and his wife Jamie; sisters, Mary McNair and Marilyn Lunsford; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Samuel Linwood Lunsford IV; brothers, Richard, Mavin, Berkley and James Lunsford; and sisters, Ann, Dolores and Martha Jean.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Springfield Baptist Church, 8 Mattie Cooper Square, Beacon, where at 11 a.m. services will take place. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
