POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Peter R Letterii, 94, of Poughkeepsie, died Sept. 9. He was 94.
He was born Jan. 2, 1922, in Poughkeepsie.
He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, where he played football and the saxophone. His love for music was a constant throughout his life.
Letterii enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, proudly serving his country during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to his career at IBM, until his retirement in 1985.
He was a loyal member of The Italian Center for 70 years, where he served on many committees and frequently was part of the entertainment.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; children, Barbara and John Walker, Maria and Martin Schreck, Diane and William Pitcairn, Rosanne and Dave Frederick; grandchildren, Debbie and Paul Winnis, John and Tara Walker, Tricia and Greg Barefoot, Peter Schreck, Nicole and Corey Davis, Michele and Phil Williams, Daniele and Cory Wilcox, Marc and Allison Pitcairn, Melissa and Kyle Van De Water, David and Andi Frederick and Alex and Chaunessey Frederick; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Pasquale and Dominic; sister-in-law, Marie; and brothers-in-law, Peter, Vito and John Franzoso and Joe Runza.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Dora, Mary and Adelaide; and his brother, Luigi.
Calling hours will take place from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc. 218 Mill St,. Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 97 Mill St., Poughkeepsie. Burial with military honors will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
