POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Patricia M. Trocino, 67, a longtime Poughkeepsie resident, died of cancer on Thursday, Dec. 3, at her son’s home in Poughkeepsie.
Trocino was born in Jamaica, Queens, on Nov. 17, 1948, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth McVay Maurer.
She worked many years as a phlebotomist at Vassar Brothers Hospital and later worked at Vassar College before finally retiring from Dutchess Community College in 2013.
She married Salvatore Trocino on May 25, 1974, at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, N.Y. He died on Jan. 27, 1997.
Trocino is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Domenic and MaryEllen Trocino of Poughkeepsie, Mark Trocino of Poughkeepsie, Christopher and Christine Trocino of Poughkeepsie, and Anthony Trocino of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Ava, Salvatore, Anna, Matthew, Dante, and Julianna; her brothers, Tom Maurer of Kentucky, Donald Maurer of Indiana, Jim Maurer of South Carolina and Kevin Maurer of Florida.
Trocino is remembered as a passionate and loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. One of her proudest moments was earning her bachelor’s degree from Marist College where her four sons also graduated.
Calling hours were held on Monday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Trocin's memory to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a childhood cancer organization that she became involved with with her granddaughter, Ava.
