POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Longtime Poughkeepsie resident Dr. Nellie S. Starpoli died Saturday April 30. She was 92.
A local physician for 60 years, Starpoli completed her medical degree at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
She completed her residency in general surgery at Fordham Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y., where she met her husband, Dr. Frank Starpoli.
She also completed sub-specialty training in thoracic surgery at New York University Hospital and became a member of a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
The husband-and-wife surgical team practiced together for nearly 35 years, and Dr. Starpoli continued in practice with her son, Dr. Anthony Starpoli until her passing.
She is survived by her son, Anthony Starpoli, daughter-in-law, Belinda Blanchfield, and granddaughter Ella.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Frank Starpoli.
Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at The Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie, NY, 12601. Street-level and wheelchair accessible entrance located off Vassar Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Friday at The Church of St. Martin de Porres, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
