BEACON, N.Y. -- Mario J. Rega, a longtime resident of Beacon, died Thursday, May 19. He was 92.
Born Oct. 8, 1923, in New York City, he was the son of the late Henry and Adeline D’Attore Rega.
He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Merchant Marine. He retired as a correction officer from Fishkill Correctional Facility. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church. He was a life member of both St. Rocco’s Society and the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council.
He is survived by his son, Matthew Rega and his companion Valerie Downie of Saugerties; his daughter, Joanne Stevens and her husband Donald of Fishkill; his four grandchildren, Andrew Stevens and his wife, Melanie, Kyle Stevens and his wife, Jennifer, Caitlin Rega and fiancée Kevin Cofiell and Michael Rega; his three great-grandchildren, Claire Stevens, Anthony Rega and Adriana Rega; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude “Gloria” Weguelin; his parents; his five brothers, Louis, Henry, Emil, John and Philip; and his three sisters, Edythe, Louise and Elizabeth.
The family will receive their friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Halvey Funeral Home Inc., 24 Willow St., Beacon. Members of the Knights of Columbus will conduct services at 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard St., Beacon. Burial will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery.
