Kevin was born on Aug. 2, 1985 in Poughkeepsie. He was a lifelong athlete starting with baseball on the East Fishkill Babe Ruth League and CYO basketball as a young boy. All through his time at John Jay High School, Kevin was an exemplary and recognized team player in both baseball and basketball. He was a starting varsity baseball player for all four years of high school as a catcher and first baseman. He also played varsity basketball as a center during his junior and senior years. The spirit and camaraderie of being on a team was one of the highlights of Kevin’s life.

Kevin attended Dutchess Community College, making the dean’s list before heading to SUNY New Paltz where he graduated with a B.S. in Business. After finishing college, he worked for Layne Christensen as a project manager in addition to various other companies in the water, wastewater, and electrical fields.

One of Kevin’s greatest joys was working with his hands, especially for the benefit of a friend or loved one, and he was a talented, resourceful, and generous handyman. His deepest wish was to be a valued, contributing member of a thriving small town community, and he spent his life working towards that end.

Kevin is survived by his mother and her husband, Lucy Ruhle Goodchild and Rick Goodchild of Wappingers Falls; his sister and her husband, Katharine and Luca Di Cerbo of Stony Brook; his grandmother, Viola Ruhle; his aunts and uncles, Carla Vel of Brooklyn, Thomas Schoonmaker and Kathy Harte of Sharon, CT, Doreen “Peaches” Bilyou of Poughkeepsie, Keith Ruhle, and Frankie and Cindy Goodchild; his great-aunt, Doris “Jean” Ruhle of Hyde Park; and his cousins, Hannah Schiffer, Colin Harte, Tanya and John Amato, Greg Amato, Michelle Amato, Justin and Lauren Schoonmaker, Emily Schoonmaker, Melissa MacLeod, Colin MacLeod, Tonia and Walter Nichols, and Aiden Nichols.

Kevin was predeceased by his father, Kevin Edward Ruhle; his grandparents, Carlton and Thelma Schoonmaker, Edwin Ruhle, and Betty Robinson; his uncle, Joseph Schoonmaker; and his great-uncle, John Sterling Ruhle.

Kevin will be buried privately at Union Cemetery in Hyde Park. A Celebration of His Life is being held on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 1  p.m. at the Blue Fountain Restaurant, 826 Route 376, Hopewell Junction. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
