John J. DeLuca, 89, Of Beacon

BEACON, N.Y. — John J. DeLuca, 89, of Beacon, died Saturday, Oct. 1.

He was born Aug. 30, 1927, in Peekskill, the son of the late Joseph and Frances Soricelli DeLuca.

DeLuca served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. He retired from the New York State Department of Transportation as a foreman. After his retirement ,he enjoyed woodworking projects.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Garnot; children, Joseph DeLuca and Joanne VanTassel and her husband, Gary; grandchildren, Jennifer Bell and her husband, Shane, Amy VanTassel and Gary VanTassel Jr.; great-grandson, Riley Bell; and sister, Genevieve Fogg.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Sylvester “Sam” DeLuca.

The family will receive their friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Halvey Funeral Home Inc., 24 Willow St., Beacon.A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow St., Beacon. Entombment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery Community Mausoleum.

Memorial donations may be made to either Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or to a charity of one’s choice.
