James Birrittella, 72, Poughkeepsie Resident

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – James Birrittella of Poughkeepsie died Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 72.

He was born Sept. 2, 1943, in Yonkers, the son of Joseph and Eleanor Birrittella. He married Ellen Leahy on April 28, 1968, in Yonkers. He was a control manager for the former Hopewell Precision in Hopewell Junction. He was a Vietnam War veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a husband, father and grandfather who was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He enjoyed recording movies and he loved his dogs, Barney and Hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughters Patricia (Timothy) Secor of Montgomery, Ala., Hollie (Michael) Farina of Poughkeepsie, and Wendy Birrittella and fiancée, Bobby Gorski, of Blacksburg, S.C.; brothers Michael and Richard Birrittella of Yonkers, Bernard Birrittella of Rochester and Joseph Birrittella of Crayville; grandchildren Emma Louise Secor, Sophie Louise Farina and Baby Boy Gorski; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A Mass will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 25, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton St., Wappingers Falls. Following the Mass, military honors will be held at the church. Burial is at the convenience of the family.
