Father Alfonso Pagliara, 90, Beacon Resident

BEACON, N.Y. – Father Alfonso Pagliara, Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh, New York. He was 90.

He was born in Chatham, N.J., on July 27, 1925, the son of the late Alfonso and Henrietta Mari Pagliara. He made his first profession of vows Aug. 21, 1977, at St. Lawrence Friary, Beacon. He was ordained on May 16, 1981, at St. Francis Church in Hackensack, N.J., by Bishop Frank Rodimer. He served in the parishes of St. Francis, Hackensack; Most Holy Redeemer, Tampa, Fla.; and Immaculate Conception, Hendersonville, N.C. He spent the remaining years of his life at St. Lawrence Friary, Beacon.

He is survived by his nieces and nephew, and their families.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his 10 siblings.

Calling hours will be Monday, Jan. 25, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m., with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Friary, 180 Sargent Ave., Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Friary. Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Friary Cemetery.
