Elizabeth S. Oakes, 88, Poughkeepsie Resident

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Elizabeth S. Oakes, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, died Monday, April 25 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie. She was 88.

She was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Poughkeepsie, to the late Myron and Frances Doyl. In 1947, she married Wilson Shultis. Then in 1952, she married Frederick Oakes. She was a control floor operator for IBM and retired in 1965. She was a member of the Christ Church Episcopal in Poughkeepsie.

She is survived by a son, Frank Shultis, and his wife, Patricia, of Hopewell Junction; daughters, Deborah Morkunas, and her husband, Victor, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kim J. Haas and her husband, Gary, of Levittown; a brother, Myron Doyl, of Massachusetts; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Doyl.

Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc., 39 S. Hamilton St., Poughkeepsie. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
