Eleanor Ackermann, 91, Fishkill Resident

FISHKILL, N.Y. – Eleanor Ackermann of Fishkill died Thursday, April 21, after a brief illness. She was 91.

She was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 22, 1925, to Samuel Marzocchi and Rose Primm. She married John M. Ackermann on Jan. 30, 1949, and shared 58 years together until John’s death in 2007.

She made a practice of passing along many of the little jokes and stories from the church bulletins or her friends in her nightly phone calls to her children. She was a devout Catholic and volunteered or many years at St. Mary’s Church in Fishkill. She made many friends through her parish who were a great support to her since her husband’s passing. Among those friends are all the priests at St. Mary’s, especially Father Adolf and Rita, Dorothy, Joan and Betty.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, John Ackermann III and his wife, Barbara, and their daughter Heather; Karl Ackermann and his wife, Beth, and their children, Gabriele and Marin; Marie Scott and her husband, Robert, and children, Richard Jr., John and Christopher; and daughter Jean and her children, Anita and Danielle; and her great-grandchildren, Carlos, Emilio, Michael and Sophia. She had a close relationship with many cousins. Among those are Dottie Cahill, Carol Goodwin, Jean Sack and Ann Paterno.

Friends may call Monday, April 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 1028 Main St., Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Mother of the Church, Fishkill. Entombment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
