Edie was born on Sept.18, 1964 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Barker Hotchkiss and the late George L. Hotchkiss.

She was a graduate of Arlington High School, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) and Gallaudet University.

Edie was passionate about equal access and opportunities for the deaf and worked as a sign language instructor. She worshipped at New Hackensack Reformed Church in Wappingers Falls, Beacon Light Tabernacle Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Wappingers Falls and the Buffalo Suburban Adventist Church in Lancaster, NY where a memorial service was held on Oct. 16.

Edie loved bible study, sign language, FaceTime video chats, gatherings with friends and family, her pets, bike riding, basketball, golfing, bowling, skiing, the outdoors, midnight-hour road trips, door-step surprises, secrets, puzzles, lecturing, sneaking sweets, the spotlight, animated responses, making people laugh and/or making people furious. She hated admitting she was wrong, being on-time, doing laundry and talking about her health.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her siblings: Karen Hotchkiss of Poughkeepsie; Bruce Hotchkiss and his wife Laura of Liberty Lake, WA; Gordon Hotchkiss and his wife Mary of Rochester Hills, MI; as well as eight nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Bootsie.

A memorial service to remember Edie and celebrate her life will take place on Sunday, Octo. 22 at 2  p.m. at the First Reformed Church of Fishkill at 1153 Main Street in Fishkill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Three Angels Deaf Ministries (3ADM.org), Camp Cherokee in Saranac Lake, NY via the Seventh-Day Adventist NY Conference (nyconf.org) or to the charity of your choosing.
