Dorothy Naomi Germond, 96, Of Beacon

BEACON, N.Y. – Dorothy Naomi Germond, a lifelong resident of Beacon, died Wednesday, July 20. She was 96.

Born Aug. 28, 1920, in Beacon, she was the daughter of Edward Gilbert Germond and Mary Becker Germond.

She was a member of the Beacon High School graduating class of 1938 and furthered her education at the Spencerian Business School in Newburgh, receiving her certificate in 1939.

For 18 years, she was employed at the New York Rubber Company sales office in Beacon. In 1961, she accepted a bookkeeping position at the former Matteawan National Bank, and then she retired from the Emery & Webb Insurance Agency in Fishkill after 18 years of service.

She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church-Beacon, where she served in many capacities, including participation in the Dorcas Guild. She took pride in the number of pins she earned as a youth for perfect Sunday School attendance. She also was a member of the Beacon Historical Society.

She is survived by several cousins, Donald Becker (Poughkeepsie), Joan Becker Sanford (Fishkill), Douglas Mayen (Stephentown), Naomi Mayen (Fishkill), Frances Mayen Wolff (Rockledge, Fla.) and Jeanne Becker Paschal (Beacon).

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., Beacon, followed by a graveside service in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
