Donald E. Gruendle, 89, Wappingers Falls Resident

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – Donald E. Gruendle, of Wappingers Falls, died Thursday, March 17, at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill. He was 89.

He was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Beacon to Edward and Jennie Schmidt Gruendle, .

He served in the Seabees during World War II.

He married the former Mary Scofield on Oct. 13, 1951.

He worked for IBM and retired in 1991 as a graphic artist and technical illustrator.

He was a former member of the Elks Lodge 275 in Poughkeepsie.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry D. Gruendle and Allan Gruendle; grandchildren, Kristen Carlson, Heather Hulslander, Nicholas Murray, Wesley Murray, Bradley Gruendle and Brittney Gruendle; and eight great-grandchildren.

His wife died in December of 2015.

He also was predeceased by his daughter, Ann Murray; brother, Allan; and sisters, Helen and Dolly.

A private cremation will take place. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Fishkill Rural Cemetery in Fishkill.

Arrangements are being handled by Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls.
