WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Charles W. Hess -- a resident of Wappingers Falls, formerly of Brooklyn -- died on Thursday, March 3. He was 75.
Born in Brooklyn, Hess was a Navy veteran. He went on to work for Con Edison, retiring as a supervisor in 1999.
He was a member of the Oddfellows in Wappingers Falls. He enjoyed Polish music and was involved with the Matusz Dance Group. He was the winner of the Harvest Moon Ball in 1964. He loved watching sports and recently enjoyed attending Marist football games.
Hess is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Cullom) Hess; children Deborah Zabroni and her husband Peter of Wappingers Falls, and Kevin Hess and his wife Renee of Yorktown; siblings Lawrence Hess, Leona Przymylski, Lorraine Wergen, Charlotte Konnick and Joyce Costa; grandchildren Leanna Marie, Julia Lynn, Ryan Charles and Rachel Krystyna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Jean Makowski Hess, and his siblings, Richard, Janie Engfer and Alvina Podgurski.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, March 7, at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, in Wappingers Falls.
