Charles P. Carpino, 92, Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Charles P. Carpino, of Poughkeepsie, died on Dec. 20. He was 92.

He was born in Kingston, to Joseph and Theresa (Polacco) Carpino on June 13, 1924. He was the co-owner of Doff Shoes, a specialty children’s shoe store, which he ran with Frank Orlando, his trusted business partner and dear friend with whom he worked 32 years. A successful small businessman by day, his true passion was music; for years, he played trumpet for the Stylists and other bands on weekends. He was a member and past president of Club 60 and volunteered for a decade with Meals-on-Wheels and at Holy Trinity Church. In retirement, he became an avid bowler, voracious reader, and accomplished cook. He thoroughly enjoyed playing poker with his buddies from Club 60 and deeply valued their friendships.

He is survived by his children, Peter (Mary Ellen), Ann (John) Hosking, Charles (Korinne) and Robert (Loren Centrello); grandchildren, Karen (Gus) Sentementes, Jason Carpino, Christine Carpino (Mike Allocca), Kelly (Brian) Lefcheck, and Sean Hosking; and great-grandchildren, Olivia, Gabriella, Evan, Elena and Jakob.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Justine (Benigno); brothers, Frank, Roscoe, James, John, and Michael; sisters, Rose Frangello and Mary Bonavita.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 from 2-5 p.m. at the Wm. G. Miller and Son Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.
