Walkway Marathon Forces Poughkeepsie Traffic Pattern Changes

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Residents will want to be aware that traffic patterns will change on June 11 on Main Street and other areas of town during the Walkway Marathon’s Think Differently Dash — a one-mile run/walk celebrating individuals in community with cognitive, developmental, and physical disabilities.

The Dutchess County Think Differently initiative spotlights people in the community with a physical or developmental disability and ensures that every individual, regardless of ability, has access to community resources. The aim is to empower local residents with physical and developmental disabilities, their families and caregivers.

Before and during the event, which begins at 10 a.m., there will be no parking, starting 6 a.m. to noon, on Main Street from Market East to Hamilton Street. Cars parked there during these hours will be towed by City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

Road closures in the area will be in place between 6 a.m.to noon, as follows:

  • Main Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic both eastbound and westbound from Hamilton to Market Street.
  • Academy Street will be closed northbound from Cannon to Main Street.
  • Catherine Street will be closed southbound from Mill to Main Street.

All parking for this event will be in the Crannell Street parking area beginning at 8 a.m.

The Think Differently Dash race route is as follows: Start on Main Street near Hudson Valley Office Furniture, continue west on Main to turnaround point near Commercial Park, head east back to second turnaround point at Hudson Valley Office Furniture, continue west to the finish line arch across from Commercial Park.
