Thousands of residents experienced power outages as storms raged in Dutchess and Putnam counties late Monday afternoon and early Monday evening.
A thunderstorm watch was issued in the region by the National Weather Service, with a Flash Flood Watch in effect until 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
As of 5 p.m. on Monday afternoon, more than 5,000 residents were without power in Putnam (5,164) and Dutchess (28), according to the New York State Electric and Gas .
Central Hudson , which serves most of Dutchess and part of Western Putnam reported 8,026 outages in Dutchess County as of 5:15 p.m., including nearly 3,500 in Poughkeepsie.
NYSEG serves most of Putnam and part of East Dutchess.
