The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Wednesday to Dutchess residents regarding the residency of 60-year-old Jeffrey Wilcox, who has moved to an apartment on the 500 block of Main Street in Poughkeepsie.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Wilcox as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Wilcox sexually abused a 14-year-old child in 2000 and was arrested by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. He was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse the following year and sentenced to a term of between one day and two years in state prison. Officials noted that pornography was involved in the offense. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Poughkeepsie City Police Department.
