Salt Point Turnpike Closed In Poughkeepsie Due To Crash

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. --  Drivers are being asked to avoid the Salt Point Turnpike in Poughkeepsie between Underhill Road and Gables Boulevard following a traffic crash that left a utility pole blocking the roadway, Town of Poughkeepsie said.

The accident, which occurred around 11 a.m., happened when a box truck lost control and struck the pole, police said.

Officers said the road will be closed until at least 2 p.m. as power company employees work to replace the pole, police said.

Drivers traveling south on the turnpike should use Bedell Road as an exit.

Police did not have information regarding any injuries to the driver of the truck.
