POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. --  After a two-year battle between residents of New Hamburg and the Bottini Fuel Co., over the number of trucks rumbling through the hamlet, a hearing Wednesday will consider a mediated settlement that would change traffic restrictions, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

A hearing will be held Wednesday to try and reach a settlement between the Poughkeepsie town board and Bottini Fuel over the number of trucks driving through the town.

The restrictions, which were imposed by the Poughkeepsie town board in 2015 after residents complained of a tremendous increase in truck traffic, led Bottini to file a lawsuit in federal court after they were adopted, said the Journal.

If the board approves the agreement between the two groups on Wednesday, the decision would still have to be approved in court, the Poughkeepsie Journal added.

If passed. the agreement would increase truck access to the terminal and treat all truck sizes the same. Currently, restrictions are tougher for 18-wheelers, said the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Overall,  small trucks would gain 12 hours of timeI and 18-wheelers would have 64 hours a week during the winter, they said.

In the summer, the smaller trucks would lose 14 hours of access and 18-wheelers would gain 34 hours. said the Journal.

The company would also pay for a school crossing guard, install a three-sided bus shelter, request that the oil barges be quieter, and move some of the shipments to Newburgh, added the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The town board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 1 Overocker Road.
