The state has the fourth oldest population in the nation, with 3.7 million people over the age of 60, according to the New York Post. By 2030, 5.2 million New Yorkers will be 60 and older.

In 2015, there were 14 counties in the state where at least 25 percent of the population was older than 60, according to the Post.

By 2025, there will be 51 counties with at least 25 percent of the population older than 60, according to the Post.

The Post blames the aging population on the state's low birth rate and failure to attract young people. The state's population decreased 50,000 last year.
