A former lieutenant with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department who left the force to become an attorney was charged Friday for the third time in connection with ongoing sexual abuse case, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.
Wayne Thatcher, 63, who was first charged on May 18 following an investigation into another case, was charged with felony sexual abuse after another person came forward with information, said Capt. John Watterson.
To date, seven people have come forward and detectives have been able to confirm three of the incidents, Watterson said.
Detectives continue working on the remaining cases and are asking for anyone who may have been a victim of Thatcher to come forward, he added.
Thatcher's actions took place in the Town of Poughkeepsie and the City of Poughkeepsie, sheriff's officials said.
Thatcher is being held at the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond.
