POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – A concerned group of skateboard advocates are trying to raise more than $18,000 to reopen a Poughkeepsie skate park closed earlier this year because of its poor condition, according to Time Warner Cable News.
Thomas “Monster” Lamoree told Time Warner Cable News the Waryas Park skate park originally opened about a decade ago after a private company gifted the city about $18,300 to aid in the project.
Lamoree and other skate park supporters had a “Make America Skate Again” rally Saturday to raise awareness and support for the cause, according to Time Warner Cable News, which reported that skateboarding is to become an Olympic event for the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
Lamoree told Time Warner Cable News he’s confident his group will be able to raise the money needed to reopen the skate park.
