The program, which gets underway at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 at Dutchess Day School, is designed to help individuals of any age or ability to begin running or return to running. During the meeting residents will meet for an orientation, receive a program packet, t-shirt, and water bottle. It will not be an active session, but will include tips and advice on running as well as essential information regarding nutrition, hydration, running form and running shoes.

The first active session will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19 at Moriarty Physical Therapy on Route 55 in Poughkeepsie. Active sessions will include a guided warm-up, timed walk-run intervals, and guided cool-down. Runners will work in small groups and have the support of a dedicated volunteer Team Captain.

Over the course of 8 weeks, participants will meet on Tuesdays to prepare to run for 20 minutes without stopping at their own pace. The runners are encouraged to set a goal to register for and to run the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club Treetops to Rooftops 5K on June 12, which is part of the Walkway Marathon weekend.

The program is limited to 80 participants and only those who have registered can take part. The cost is $35 for members of the Chamber and $50 for non- members. All participants must sign a waiver of liability form. Please note the registration fee for the 5K is not included in the program fee and all training sessions are held rain or shine.
