Dutchess County Flags Fly At Half-Staff For Legislator Daniel Hannigan

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Flags are flying at half-staff Monday following the death of former County Legislator Daniel Hannigan.

Daniel John Hannigan, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, died Thursday, March 24. He was 94.

A Navy veteran of World War II, Hannigan graduated from Cornell University in 1950 and went on to own and operate a successful veterinary practice in Wappingers Falls for 35 years. 

He was active in politics, serving as a Dutchess County legislator from 1972-80. He was minority leader for four years and chairman for two. While in the Legislature, he was instrumental in the development of Bowdoin Park, as well as working to put bike paths throughout the county.

Visiting hours will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., in Wappingers Falls. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m.
