There will be a Sept. 11 ceremony at Dutchess County Airport starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday as part of a three-day military aviation exhibit sponsored by the Wings of Freedom Tour.

Sunday's memorial ceremony will "remember and honor the victims, survivors and heroes of the September 11th terrorist attacks,''' according to organizers.

A separate 9-11 memorial event is planned by the Hudson Valley Guns & Hoses on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Dutchess Stadium. The day’s events will start at 1 p.m. with the final playoff games of the Public Safety Softball Series. That 9-11-01 Memorial Ceremony will take place at about 6 p.m. on Sept. 17.

The weekend air show features World War II aircraft at the county airport from 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 11. The display includes a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress "Nine O Nine" heavy bomber, Consolidated B-24 Liberator "Witchcraft" heavy bomber, North American B-25 Mitchell "Tondelayo" and P-51C Mustang dual-control fighter.

The B-17 is one of eight such bombers in flying condition in the United States. The B-24 and P-51C Mustang are the sole remaining examples of their type flying in the world, according to the tour's sponsor, the Collings Foundation.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “The Wings of Freedom Tour has drawn thousands to our own Dutchess County Airport in previous years and we are excited to once again host this remarkable living history exhibit."

Tour prices are $12 for adults and $6 for children under 13 years old. WWII veterans can tour the aircraft for free. Discounted rates are available for school groups. Exhibit hours are Friday, Sept. 9 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, Hudson Valley Guns & Hoses will hold its annual 9-11-01 Memorial Event on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Dutchess Stadium. The day will start at 1 p.m. with the Public Safety Softball Series final games, including a 5 p.m. championship game. Their annual 9-11-01 Memorial Ceremony will follow at about 6 p.m.

In a news release, organizers wrote, "As we remember that horrific day 15 years ago, we remember the heroes who responded, and we vow their sacrifice will never be forgotten."

The Arlington Fire Department will have their color guard present as attendees salute the American flag. After the ceremony, "Hudson Valley’s Bravest will take on the Hudson Valley’s Finest in a game of baseball -- followed by a spectacular fireworks display," organizers said.

There are still opportunities to participate in the day’s events. Local first responders who would like to participate are encouraged to click here for more details..
