HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. -- The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Royal Carting Service Co. to provide a business electronics recycling week for its members.

From Monday through Saturday, Nov. 14-19, chamber members can dispose of their old, unwanted electronics for a discounted cost, at Royal Carting's Hopewell Junction location.

"It helps the environment, which is the first and most important reason for doing this," Rich Kleban told Daily Voice. He's the senior vice president and chief operating officer of the chamber.

"As a business organization, we take the environmental aspects of that very seriously. We also offer the event as a resource for our members, and it also provides a donation to the foundation. It's kind of icing on the cake, for us."

As part of the event, Royal Carting will be making a donation back to the Chamber Foundation.

The drop-off times are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Royal Carting staff will also be available to unload vehicles.

Here are the sorts of electronics that are eligible:

  • Computer monitors and CPUs, laptops, modems, printers and keyboards.
  • Cellphones and telephones, fax machines and typewriters.
  • Radios, CRTs, flat-screen TVs and stereo equipment.
  • VCRs, microwaves and copiers.
  • Batteries and cables.

Pre-registration is required: click here to register and see a full list of recyclable items and corresponding fees. Contact Chelsea at 845-454-1700, ext. 1000, or chelsea@dcrcoc.org for more information.

While this event is exclusively for chamber members. Anyone can recycle items at Royal Carting at its regular rates. Visit its website or call 845-896-6000 for more information.

And for local businesses that aren't yet members, call 845-454-1700, ext. 1000, for information about joining. The annual membership fee is based on the type of industry and number of employees.

"We can make nonmembers into members fairly quickly," Kleban said.

Royal Carting is at 409 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.

Chamber members Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. and Quality Environmental Solutions & Technologies are sponsoring this recycling event.
