Update, 1:15 p.m.

As of 1:15 p.m. on Friday, a Central Hudson Gas and Electric spokesperson announced that 70,000 outages have been reported, with more than 700 individual damage locations to be addressed.

"Outages and damage locations continue to be reported as the heavy snow and winds continue. Crews continue to work to restore service, and we will provide estimated restoration times as the severe weather subsides," John Maserjian of Central Hudson said.

Earlier report:

More than 10,000 Dutchess County residents find themselves losing power, as the latest Nor’easter batters the region with winter weather.

Hundreds of power outages were reported to Central Hudson as of noon on Friday afternoon, as the storm - which is expected to drop as many as ten inches of snow in the area - affecting thousands of customers.

As of noon, there were 297 outages reported to Central Hudson in Dutchess, with 14,028 customers affected out of 118,239 served in the county. Orange County reported just 10 outages, with 41 customers affected, while 21 outages were reported in Putnam, impacting service to 3,420 of the 5,082 customers served.

According to officials, Central Hudson crews have been dispatched to address power outages and report on damage locations. "During system emergencies like this, all employees from throughout Central Hudson are involved in restoration or support activities. Mutual aid crews from Hydro-Quebec are expected to arrive later today to assist in power restoration."

According to the National Weather Service, winds are expected to reach up to 50 mph, with a mix of snow and rain in the area over the afternoon. Several inches of snow are expected to accumulate.

"With the potential for additional snowfall, steady winds and high wind gusts, power interruptions are expected to continue throughout the day and are likely to escalate," Charles Freni, Senior Vice President of Customer Services and Transmission & Distribution added. “We expect significant and widespread damage from this storm, resulting in a multi-day event for power restoration. Some areas may be without power for 24 hours or more.”
