STORMVILLE, N.Y. -- Mountaintop Market has been a Dutchess County staple - and the go-to deli in the Stormville area - for the last 30 years for a reason.
They do it right.
Dutchess residents Jim and Carol Reynolds took over the well-established deli 13 years ago, and have continued to make customers feel welcome with a family atmosphere and great food.
"What people love is our friendly atmosphere, and our homemade food," Jim Reynolds, a Carmel High graduate, told Daily Voice during a recent visit. "We have new specials every day."
Some of the deli's most popular include the Chicken Supreme (with swiss cheese, bacon, tomatoes and onion), and the Appalachian Trailblazer (buffalo chicken, pepper jack cheese, on roll with mayo, hot sauce and banana peppers).
What makes their food so good? "Everything is home made," Reynolds said. "We use all Boars Head cold cuts, and all our salads are home made."
The market also gets a lot of hikers off the nearby Appalachian Trail, and has a spot out back for them to rest and eat in the shade. Reynolds lets them fill up water bottles and camp in the spot, and even has a log in the store where hikers sign in.
