LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y.- Area ice cream lovers already know what many are finding out: Zoe's Ice Cream Bar is open for business, and the ice cream there is.... well - amazing is the word Daily Voice heard a lot during a recent visit.
Zoe's is all about being fresh, and being local. Their slogan is "From Cow to Cone in Three Days," and they use only fresh dairy products from the Hudson Valley.
Zoe Ferris, of Poughkeepsie, opened the place with her dad just four weeks ago, and already the word about their great homemade ice cream has spread like wildfire.
Ferris is a Culinary Institute graduate who learned about making ice cream during a five-year stint at Heinchons.
"That's where I learned how to make ice cream," Ferris told Daily Voice. "It's been a dream of mine since I went to the culinary to open a place like this... then I opened this with my dad. I grew up on a farm, so it made sense to put that experience and ice cream together."
Ferris said her best selling flavors of hard ice cream (they have several flavors featured each day) are black rasberry and maple walnut - made with local maple syrup.
They also sell soft-serve vanilla and chocolate, and starting this fall Zoe's will offer fresh beef burgers, hand cut fries and seasonal pies. There's also a tractor out in front for kids to sit on, and picnic tables outside.
