POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - If you've been around the Collegeview Avenue area of Poughkeepsie, you've probably had a slice (or a salad or a wrap) from Pizzeria Bacio Ristorante.
The family-run pizzeria/restaurant has been serving up slices and Italian specialties since 2008, and has built a reputation for not only great pizza and Italian standards, but in keeping up with the times.
"Some of our most popular items now are salads and wraps," says Chef Gerardo Carino, who cooks and runs the place for brother/owner Davie Carino.
Pizzeria Bacio has also earned praise for its Gluten-free pizza, which unlike some others is made in-house by Carino, not with pre-made crust.
"Some people prefer it to our regular pizza crust," Manager Patricia Smith said. "It's really good."
Smith said the restaurant has survived nearly nine years because they try to do things right.
"We're in a good location with Vassar across the Street," Smith said. "It's kind of an up-and-coming area. And we're a family-oriented place. We want to make our customers happy, we take pride in the way we treat customers. We have some crazy pasta dishes (there are two dozen on the menu), and people absolutely adore the food.
"We put a whole lot of love into how the food is made, and how it's served," she said.
"Everyone says we're one of the best restaurants in the Hudson Valley," Carino said. "We always try to give people the best we can. The most important thing is I take pride in what I do, and always try to make the best food."
Pizzeria Bacio is located at 7 Collegeview Ave. in Poughkeepsie.
