Daily Voice captured some impressive area displays, and everywhere we went, the story was the same: what started out small, and usually with the kids, has grown each year. After the kids are grown, the cherished tradition continues.

John and Annette DeCaprio have a stunning display on Traci Lane in Hopewell. Christmas day is also special to the family because it's John's birthday.

"Christmas is a very important time of year for us," John DeCaprio told Daily Voice. "I have five grandsons who help, so that makes it a little easier. We've been doing it for 16 years, since I've been here."

But it's the reaction from kids - of all ages - that makes the labor worthwhile.

"The most satisfying thing is seeing kids come by, and their reactions," DeCaprio said. "The kids always want to know what's new each year."

DeCaprio starts putting his display up October 1, and has it ready by Thanksgiving.

"My wife (Paulina) loves doing it every year," Peter Kocovic of Hopewell Junction, who also had an impressive Hopewell display, said. "We've been doing this for 20 years now. It stared out small, and we've added every year. The grand kids, and all the kids, love it."
